4 Mayfield Kentucky Messenger Monday ebruary 3 2003 Page 3 Mailbox by Kathy Mitchell and Marcy Sugar I Dear Annie: My father is Jewish I and my mother is Catholic Although I Mom has not converted she goes to I Temple on every Jewish holiday and I is raising my sisters and me to be I Jewish Three years ago I had my Bat I Mitzvah a traditional Jewish rite of passage I practiced my Torah portion I for seven months in preparation for the day It was a lot of fun and a I memorable experience except for I one thing My grandparents on my mother's side refused to come They I do not accept my Jewish upbringing I They didn't even go to my parents' wedding because they objected so I strenuously I I realize hard for them to accept the way I am being raised but I I cannot accept their blind dismissal of my religion They have never made I any effort to look into my faith While I I cannot claim to know everything I about Catholicism I am not as I clueless about their religion as they I are about mine I Next year my younger sister will I have her Bat Mitzvah My parents are I divorced now but my mother still I goes to Temple How can I get my I grandparents to attend my sister's Bat I Mitzvah? TORN BECAUSE I RELIGION I DEAR TORN: You cannot force I your grandparents to be more tolerant of your religion Their objections are both emotional and deep seated and their beliefs will not permit them to be flexible on the subject It is good that you are proud of your heritage Since your grandparents are not likely to change their tune however try to accept them as they are And mazel tov on your sister's upcoming Bat Mitzvah Dear Annie: like to respond to "Granny in the Midwest" who received some p*rnographic material from her teenage granddaughter Last year my pre teen niece sent me a link to a p*rn site After discovering she also sent the same link to my 8 year old son I contacted her parents to let them know They were distraught and outraged It turns out my niece did not actually send this mail A virus had infected her computer and this message was sent to everyone in her address book When I clicked on the link it was then sent to everyone in MY address book as well After many tears some apologetic phone calls and a cleaned out hard drive the issue was finally resolved Please tell "Granny" just because the granddaughter's screen name appeared as the sender she should not automatically assume the girl is guilty INDIANA AUNT DEAR INDIANA AUNT: Several readers suggested the grand daughter's computer could have a virus that sent the mail to everyone in her address book and that Granny now may be spreading the same attachment to all her friends and relatives Those who haven't already done so should install reliable anti virus software as a precaution against such slime Our thanks to everyone who wrote Dear Annie: I am a kindergarten teacher faced with a recurring problem requently parents will send children to school with birthday party invitations to distribute to classmates I maintain a classroom policy that unless all of the children are invited the invitations must be mailed Nothing is more hurtful to a child than to know he or she is not invited to a classmate's party Some parents have complained about this policy citing postal rates and inconvenience Am I old fashioned? WONDERING IN THE NORTHWEST DEAR WONDERING: No You are both correct and caring Those thoughtless parents who find such consideration too inconvenient ought to be ashamed Annie's Mailbox is written by 'Kathy Mitchell and Marcy Sugar longtime editors of the Ann Landers column Please mail your questions to anniesmailboxattbicom or write to: Annie's Mailbox PO Box 118190 Chicago IL 60611 school board meeting here Tuesday The Mayfield Independent School Board of Education will meet in special session this Tuesday eb 4 beginning at 5 pm at the board's offices 709 Eighth Street Purpose of the meeting according to an announcement from the board office Is to approve the use of a charter bus One charged in Currin case is freed on a reduced bond By DARLENE EASTERWOOD Staff Writer Carlos Jermell Lo" Saxton one of two men accused in the brutal murder of Jessica Currin two years ago Is once again out of Jail after his bond on a drug trafficking charge was reduced Saxton 22 formerly of 405 Second St Mayfield was in Graves Circuit Court this (Monday) morning on a cocalne trafflcklng charge a Class felony He had been arrested this past August by the Graves County Sheriffs Department after he reportedly had sold cocaine to a confidential informant in June At the time of his arrest Saxton was out of jail on bond for a charge of complicity to murder Currin Currin was 18 when her beaten and burned body was found behind the Mayfield Middle School in August 2000 Jeremy Adams 26 of 2059 Marion Circle Is scheduled to stand trial for the murder this month in Marshall County Adams has been held at various state correctional insti tutions on a $1 million bond Saxton's original bond on the murder charge was $500000 cash but Graves Circuit John Daughaday lowered the bond to 10 percent of $10000 in August 2001 According to Circuit Court records Judge Daughaday low ered bond on the drug charge to 10 percent of $5000 on Dec 30 2002 This bond was posted Jan 7 Saxton was in street clothes this morning when he was in court Daughaday set a status conference in the drug case for March 10 A trial date has not been set for Saxton yet in the murder case In another murder case this morning Judge Daughaday refused to lower the bond for Terrell David Galbreath 24 of Mulberry Grove Ill Galbreath is one of three men charged with murdering Aubrey Smith in ebruary 2000 Smith was 26 when his body was found in the Clarks River He had been beaten and shot Galbreath has been held on a $100000 cash bond Nicole Bachmann with the Public Advocate's Office In Henderson Ky represented Galbreath in court today asking the Judge to lower the bond to $25000 Daughaday said Galbreath was a "flight risk" since it took police a year to find him after the murder motion is denied" Daughaday said bond was original ly $500000 later amended to $250000 and then reduced again to $100000 Kris Johnson 23 of Mayfield and father David Louis McCampbell 44 of 201 12th St Mayfield are also charged with the murder Both men are being held on $500000 cash bonds Johnson Is In the penitentiary at Eddyville on an unrelated crime Logs rom page 2 of a controlled substance and pos session of drug paraphernalia 10:05 pm Alois Klinglnger 214 Crittendon Ln Mayfield was arrest ed for assault 4th assault 3rd and resisting arrest 11:53 pm Ellen O'Nan 1228 Broadway Mayfield was arrest ed for disregarding a stop sign pos session of an alcoholic beverage by a minor and driving under the Influ ence 2 1 03 12:58 am James Thompson 606 Macedonia St Mayfield was arrested for alcohol intoxication and on a violation of a conditional dis charge 2:01 am Juan Lopez 115 Pryor St and 317 irst St Mayfield was arrested for driving under the influence no operator license and a violation of a condi tional discharge 2:48 am Bobby Haneline 125 Lumber Rd Mayfield was arrested for alcohol intoxication 3:12 am Robert Owens 521 Water St Mayfield reported an arson 3rd 6:27 am Romero Miquel Ramos 279 Water St Mayfield was arrested for alcohol intoxica tion 6:27 am Jose Medina 803 10th St Mayfield was arrested for alcohol Intoxication 12:47 pm Angela Galez 215 17th St Mayfield was served summons for theft by unlawful tak ing under $300 4:51 pm Betty Kamppi 819 13th St Mayfield was arrested for endangering the welfare of a minor 7:38 pm Derek Brown 362 McClain St Mayfield was arrested for possession of a controlled sub stance driving under the influence and no insurance 10:08 pm Elizabeth A Riley 5161 State Rt 564 Mayfield was cited for speeding 71 mph in a 55 mph zone 2 2 03 8:54 am Gladys Mason 636 Wilford Mayfield was served sum mons of two counts of theft by deception under $300 9:28 pm Altton Barfield 303 14th St Mayfield was served summons on two counts of theft by deception under $300 and on two counts of a violation of a conditional discharge North Dakota wins jackpot! (Some don't even read the book after they purchase it!) What good is reading the book if one does not follow the instructions? The Bible is full of advice and principles that cover a whole host of topics Many times the of today will not agree with the time proven God given principles of the Bible 1 would urge the readers to give more thought to what God says to us through the Bible instead of listening to others so often riends we need to be aware that there are some who count themselves as yet they too will offer advice that is not true to the Bible Be very careful not to be lured by their sweet talk James tells us in James 2:19 believe that there is one God You do well Even the demons believe and Merely believing in God is not enough! be doers of the word and not hearers only deceiving (James 1 :22) We are to not only READ the Bible to know what God wants from us but then also to DO those things make sure that we are not deceived by smooth talking people who offer us direction that is contrary to what the Bible teaches Some who teach today may be reading the book but not following its advice! Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 all things hold fast what is Acts 17:11 says that the Bereans the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were I urge you to become a student of the Bible and follow its directions It is simple enough for anyone to understand And your soul is important enough for you to study and make sure of your beliefs remember that it takes more than simply reading the Bible to be pleasing to God We must also act on what it says!
